 Post 4: The Application – Mapping Your Network

Title: The Master List: Organizing the Chaos 📋 Goal: Applying the logic to the whole house (Main vs. Guest & IP Ranges).

Once we fixed the NAS, we realized we could apply this logic to the whole house. We audited the device list—from the Dell Vostro to the Bosch Dishwasher—and created a "Network Map."

1. The Split:

  • Main Network: Trusted devices (Laptops, Phones, Printers).

  • Guest Network: Untrusted IoT devices (Smart Gardens, Appliances). Tip: If you move these to Guest, make sure they use the Cloud so your app still works!

2. The IP Ranges: Instead of random numbers, we grouped them logically using Address Reservation:

  • .10 - .29: Computers

  • .30 - .49: Phones

  • .50 - .69: Printers & NAS

Now, if we see traffic on .53, we know instantly it's the NAS.
