CB Journal - Day Five
CB Journal - Day Five
Today's observation…. Regardless of what you do, or what you plan… something will come along to screw it up. The amount of time that it takes just to maintain a site is greatly underestimated. People just do not understand what kind of time it takes just to keep up with updates. Today's update was Community Builder, later today there will be an update for another component…and after that an update to some other component.
What people in 'general' do is compare their myspace, youtube, facebook account to a real website. They 'think' because they can music to play on their site…that they are geniuses. They have no idea, nor do they care…that on the technical end… there is a lot of work going on.
Is it getting easier…yes. Is it getting harder…yes.
Today I am starting off with the following task list…
- Upgrade to the stable version 1.2 - DONE
- Upgrade to 1.2 stable went withouit a hitch (as far as I know)… BUT… it took an hour of my time, as I read everyline of the documentation. Maybe the documentation should be cut down somewhat.
- How may blogs can I populate using OneNote? Try these:
- SalesTrainingAndNetworking.com
- Not natively
- SurfinWithStan
- MySpace
- Joomlapolis
- MSN Live Spaces
- Blogger
- The only one that would have worked on this is the blog to 'live spaces' and "blogger". This is going to take more time to figure out. I'm probably going to have to add some plugin to the site. Will address this later.
- SalesTrainingAndNetworking.com
- Download the documentation and store in Remository - DONE
- Create a directory for applications .. Those directories should include
- Documentation
- Downloads of patches if available
- Links to forums for the applications
- Create a directory for applications .. Those directories should include
- What are the following plugins found under the community builder management? Why are they there… what do they do.. Or allow?
- Blogs
- Articles
- Rename 'remository'
- Check out any extensions that might be interesting
- The new subscription model (for sites with paid subscribers)
- I didn't get to this… not enough time.
- Notes made concerning changes I need to make, discovered during this study time.
- Enable the 'terms of service" agreement in user registration.
- Add an image or logo to the registration page.
- Add a ticketing system for my clients
- The downloads font needs to be improved
- Need a FAQ area for all applications..
- (or do we want to put it in the Forums?)
