CB Journal - Day Three
CB Journal - Day Three
There's really not any need to go down a 'new' path today. I'll simply pick up where I left off, and explain briefly the issues that I ran into yesterday that are currently resolved. I'll also add a list of things that I need to do and implement as well. One of the things that I think I need to say is that EVERYday, before I begin working on this site I backup the database and ftp the files on the server back to my local server/file storage. Yes, I have cron jobs that do this on a regular basis… but not on a daily basis. I will at some point automate that. Anyway, in MY world I take responsibility for what I do and don't rely totally on things that I have no real control over. That being said…I'll move on.
- I need a downloads manager. I've used docman, rubberdocs, and remository on sites in the past. I quit using docman because it wasn't 1.5 native. Rethinking that decision, it was probably a bad one, since it worked pretty dang good. Remository is also a good choice as well, runs natively with a large user base and has a good reputation for support. Rubberdocs is stable, but is lacking is some of the features I'd like to have. At the beginning of this blog, I'm leaning towards Remository but that may change by the time I actually get to that task today.
- Yesterday I had an issue with the PMS Quick Message box not showing up on the user profiles. This was due to my misunderstanding/interpretation of the docs. This has been fixed due to some excellent feedback, response from deni_hanca and Nants. The posts are in the forum just do a search for "Quick Message box" or click on the link to that phrase. Here's what I misread and misunderstood:
"I 'assumed' (myPMS ) came with the install because the names of the items were showing up in various places. Drop downs and component list mostly. The way that I read the documentation, I thought nothing other than mypms was needed and it was already installed as part of the core .. but reading it now it says "CB core plugin support" not "CB core plugin installation". Nant's directions were straightforward enough... much like a Reader's Digest version of CB_PMS_integration.
I went with UDDEIM because it's what appears to be the suggested PMS. There are some files included in the zip for UDDEIM, cb_plug_pms_uddeim15 and cb_plug_pms_uddeim_inbox15 that I think are patches or something... will figure that out along with the template files. "
- Template files were a cinch…just upload them to the uddeIM template directory and you will have access to them.
Now to get started on yesteday's notes. I'll start with what I think is the easiest to implement.
- Need to change the fields on the registration form
- Remove unnecessary fields on the registration page
- This was done very easily by doing a search in the forums. I looked in the Documentation for about two minutes..then found it in the forums in about 30 seconds. Just take them off the registration page using the Fields Tab.
- Add some text to the registration page - easily done via the Registration Tab….
- Remove the double login on the registration page - again on the registration page.. (show login on registration page)
- Remove unnecessary fields on the registration page
- What do they use for their downloads area?
- They Use DocMan .. And I probably will too.
- The new subscription model (for sites with paid subscribers)
- I didn't get to this… not enough time.
- Notes made concerning changes I need to make, discovered during this study time.
- Enable the 'terms of service" agreement in user registration.
- Add an image or logo to the registration page.
- Add a ticketing system for my clients
